Integrated-services data transmission and switching system for narrowband and broadband services

In an integrated-services digital network (ISDN) for narrowband and broadband services with telephone and video communications switching arrangements and connection paths provided alongside one another, a video communications connection is set up on the basis of in-band signalling transmitted in the telephone connection channel from the destination exchange to the originating exchange, so that the association of the telephone connection and the video communications connection is ensured. Following the in-band signalling, channel information designating the broadband video communications channel to be used is transmitted from the originating exchange to the destination exchange in a central signalling channel or likewise in the telephone connection channel.
