The invention relates to a rotating clamping device with at least one clamping element clamping the respective workpiece and with a clamping force pick-up for sensing the respective clamping force. Instead of measuring active forces on moving parts of the clamping device, reaction deformations in the clamping chuck body are measured by arranging the clamping force pick-up on a part of the chuck body subjected to a deformation due to the clamping force. The clamping force pick-up, consisting of strain gauges, may be arranged either on a connecting piece of the chuck body, which interconnects segments of the chuck body neighbouring one another at the radially inner end of the jaw guides, or on the radially inner edge of the rear jaw-guide surfaces.
