In a process for the heat treatment of switch parts made of rail steel by cooling the switch parts from a starting temperature in such a manner that a finely lamellar perlite structure is established, the switch parts are so cooled from the region of the quenching temperature by treatment with water that a finely lamellar perlite structure is obtained.
