PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium with superior recording and reproducing characteristics, by forming a ''Permalloy'' film on a nonmagnetic substrate, a Ti film having a specified thickness on the Permalloy film at a specified incident angle or below, and a vertically magnetizable Co-Cr film on the Ti film. CONSTITUTION:A Permalloy film 2 is formed on a substrate 1 of a polymer or a nonmagnetic metal, and a Ti film having 200-1,300Angstrom thickness is formed on the film 2 by a vacuum deposition method at <=60 deg.C incident angle (angle between the average direction of evaporated atoms incident on the substrate 1 and the normal line of the substrate surface). A magnetic layer 3 contg. Co and Cr as principal components such as a Co-Cr alloy layer is then vacuum-deposited to obtain a 2-layered film type vertical magnetic recording medium. Since the Ti film having the specified thickness is formed between the layers 2, 3 at the specified incident angle, the layer 3 has high vertical orientability and high output, and the magnetic medium with superior recording and reproducing characteristics is obtd. |
