PURPOSE:To obtain a titled optical fiber which is dense in construction and has excellent strength and water resistance by sticking a metal (compd.) in a polycrystalline or amorphous state on an optical fiber of a quartz material, and crystallizing the same so as to form a single crystal metallic layer. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 11 of a quartz material is spun; at the same time, a metal or metallic compd. (e.g.; polysilicon) 12 in a polycrystalline or amorphous state is stuck thereon by a CVD method, dipping method, vapor deposition method or the like, whereafter the fiber is subjected to laser annealing to melt the metallic layer 12 from a certain one point and to grow a crystal to a single crystal so that a belt-like single crystal region is made. The remaining polycrystal region is melted to expand the single crystal region, whereby a single crystal metallic layer 13 is formed. |
