Multi-core cables taken into distribution boxes or equipment cases are usually anchored to prevent undue strain on the connections made to the individual conductors. The present single-piece grommet distributes any external strain on the cable to the surface of the box surrounding the entry hole. It is cheaper to mfr. and install than conventional cable clamps or screw collar fittings. It consists of a ring with an outer dia. that just fits into the hole. It has protruding notches (1) on the outside, and a truncated cone divided into segments (2) inside the ring. The notches prevent the grommet from pulling out of the box. The cone. dia. at the outer end is the same as that of the ring, reducing to slightly less than the cable dia. at the inside edge (3). Strain on the cable causes the cone segments to bend inwards, gripping the cable more securely.
