PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of steering interference by allowing a pair of rack bars, one of which is coupled with the left wheel and the other with the right wheel, to intersect at a certain angle and by putting the rack bars in meshing with a pinion on the steering shaft. CONSTITUTION:A pair of round columns are put in intersection at a certain angle while they are held in a single piece to form an approx. X-shaped rack housing 9, and a steering gear box 10 is installed as in a single body with the central part of the rack housing 9. A pinion 12 on the steering shaft 11 is pivoted rotatably in the gear box 10. A pair of rack bars 14, 15 are fitted in the rack housing 9 in such a way that they can make a relative movement in the longitudinal direction, and therefore the two rack bars 14, 15 intersect at the specified intersection angle. Each of the rack bars 14, 15 is connected with either the left or right wheel through a tie rod 16, and racks 18, 19 are formed meshing with the pinion 11. |
