PURPOSE:The excessive temperature rise of the melted E-glass in the center zone surrounded with the top ends of electrodes in the glass melting furnace is inhibited, the electric resistance is set higher in the center zone than in the peripheral zones to inhibit the local temperature rise in the melted E-glass in the furnace center, thus melting E-glass stably. CONSTITUTION:The melted E-glass in the furnace 1 is heated by the electric current flowing between pairs of electrodes 2, 3 set at the upper part and the lower part where the E-glass itself works as a resistance heating unit. The raw materials of E-glass are fed to form a mount b on the center of the melted E- glass in the furnace and melted from the bottom by heat of the melted E-glass. At this time, marked reduction in electric resistance accompanied by its temperature rise is characterized in E-glass. Thus, in order to inhibit the temperature rise in the center zone g, the electric path between electrodes are made to turn around the periphery, thus enabling a relatively wide region surrounding the zone g to rise in temperature. |
