PURPOSE:Alkali-resistant glass fiber that is composed of SiO2, as a major component, and prescribed amounts of ZrO2, TiO2, ZnO2, rare earth element oxides and alkali metal oxides in which the contents of K2O and Li2O are specified, thus showing high alkali resistance and permitting easy production. CONSTITUTION:The objective alkali-resistant glass fiber comprises 55-65wt% of SiO2, 10-18wt% of ZrO2, 4-10wt% of TiO2, 0.5-7wt% of ZnO, 1-5wt% of rare earth element oxides such as Y2O3 and 12-18wt% of alkali metal oxides having the composition cited below. In the alkali metal oxides, the content of K2O is less than 6wt%, Li2O, less than 2wt%. Further, the objective glass fiber may contain additionally small amounts of impurities coming from starting ores, e.g., Al2O3, Fe2O3 or MgO up to 5wt%. The resultant glass fiber has high alkali resistance suitable for use in reinforcement for molded products using cement materials. Moreover, the glass fiber is easily produced. |
