In the process for making sodium persulfate by the reaction of ammonium persulfate and a base such as sodium hydroxide, sodium sulfate is formed as a by-product by the reduction of the persulfate by ammonia. By modifying the composition of the mother liquor, it is possible to separately crystallize pure sodium sulfate decahydrate from the mother liquor and thus maintain a sufficiently low sulfate concentration so that none crystallizes with the sodium persulfate product.
|
