PURPOSE:To make it possible to convert a given pattern into dots on a lattice by discriminating unlabeled points, labeled pints and connection points on the basis of existence modes on the pattern near lattice points, and setting up connection function of these point. CONSTITUTION:A drawn pattern has fixed line width and is expressed by several black dots 5. Points 4 on lattice points of orthogonal coordinate axis 2 of black dots 5 are extracted, a region with a fixed distance centering on lattice point 3 is imagined, and on the basis of states of black dots within the region, unlabeled points, labeled points and connection points are obtained by classifying. For this classification, the total number of black dots 5 within the fixed region is determined and when the total number is large enough, lattice points within the region are given labeled points to provide connection information extending in any direction. When the total number is small enough, lattice points are given unlabeled points. When the total number is an intermediate value, it depends upon the state of information on lattice point 3.
