PURPOSE:To improve performance of a cell and obtain a long life of the cell while improve its reliability, by forming a whole unit of the peripheral part of fuel and air electrodes to a strong water repellent layer and the inside to a weak water repellent layer to hold a fixed amount of phosphoric acid used as the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A fuel electrode 2 processed with a catalytic layer 9 and an air electrode 1 are arranged at a face-to-face position by interposing a matrix layer 5. Strong water repellent layers 10 strongly formed to a water repellent are formed to said both electrodes 1, 2 from their end faces by the prescribed dimensions. While a weak water repellent layer 11 formed to a suitable water repellent is formed to the inside of the layer 10 so as to suitably contain a prescribed amount of electrolyte of phosphoric acid or the like. When air and fuel flow respectively in gas flow paths 3, 4 to take off electric energy by catalytic action, phosphoric acid in the matrix layer 5 is prevented from moving into the electrode by the layer 10 further evaportion is largely prevented by phosphoric acid in the layer 11. |
