PURPOSE:To prevent preliminarily the erroneous recognition, by entering an auxiliary character having a prescribed relation to a character to be recognized, together with the character to be recognized and recognizing these characters to discriminate whether the prescribed relation is true between characters resulted from the recognition. CONSTITUTION:Lines A and B of an input sheet 1 are character lines to be recognized, and lines (a) and (b) are auxiliary character lines. Characters on the input sheet are read by a known reader and are inputted to a pattern recognizing circuit 5 through a known preprocessing circuit 3. The recognizing circuit 5 recognizes characters on a basis of a standard patterns accumulated in a dictionary memory 6. When each character on the character line to be recognized is recognized as a unique character, the character code is accumulated in a register 7 for characters to be recognized, and characters on the auxiliary character line are recognized. The result of the recognition of the auxiliary character line is accumulated in an auxiliary character register 8. When the recognition of the auxiliary character line for the characters to be recognized is terminated, character codes are inputted from both registers to a deciding circuit 9, and it is checked whether every character has the prescribed relation or not. The check result is accumulated in a character file 10. |
