PURPOSE:To output character candidate having like feature as final association result, by advancing the association hierarchically from simple partial pattern of a character to complicated partial pattern including them and confirming whether association result is proper or not. CONSTITUTION:An input character signal 11 is impressed to a stroke detecting part 10, and segment information indicating stroke of the character is extracted and is outputted as stroke information 12. Stroke information 12 as one example of fundamental element of the character is inputted to a structure expression generating part 20. The structure expression generating part 20 accumulates these information temporarily and combines them to generate a structure expression and sends the structure expression as a structure expression output 26 to a temporarily storing association part 30 in response to a request signal 320 from the association part 30 during the generation of the structure expression. The association part 30 stores temporarily the inputted structure expression output 26 and sends a structure expression for retrieval to an associative dictionary 50 through a signal line 34. Associative information accumulated in the associative dictionary 50 preliminarily is retrieved in accordance with this structure expression, and pattern codes of several association results are outputted to a signal line 53 and are held in the association part 30. |
