A vacuum is used in spaces between exterior and interior walls of a building to insulate the building. Variation of the rate of heat transfer from the building, in order to regulate its interior temperature, is obtained by variation of the level of vacuum in the wall space. The rate of heat transfer can be increased by injecting a fluid under pressure into the cavities, providing a thermally conductive path across the spaces. The vacuum pump (8) and fluid pump (9) are controlled by regulators (10, 11, 12) which monitor interior temperature and ensure it remains at the preset value. Similar units can be fitted in the roof space.
|
