The device (1) consists of grooves (5) which are formed in the surface of the window, specifically at the lower end of the wiped area (4). The longitudinal edges of the grooves (5) form stripping edges over which the wiper blades (3) slide, the dirt particles which adhere to them being scratched off. Such a design permits the wiper blades (3) to slide over the grooves (5) more uniformly than in a device which has strips or tapes attached to the window (2) in order to form stripping edges. <IMAGE>
