PURPOSE:To shorten the warm-up time of an internal-combustion engine, by operating a retarder, which is used as a vehicle brake, to lightly decelerate the rotation of the engine during the warm-up time. CONSTITUTION:A flywheel 5 fitted on a crankshaft 3 between an internal-combustion engine and a transmission is used as the rotor of an electromagnetic retarder which includes a plurality of retarding units 7, each of which has a short-circuit ring 15 fitted on a core 13 around which an electromagnetic coil 10 is wound. The retarding units 7 are mounted on the housing 6 of the flywheel 5. A warm-up switch 41 is provided in the electric circuit of the coils 10 of the retarder so that the switch is coupled in parallel with a retarding switch 40. The switch 41 is turned on for warm-up, by the output of an AND circuit 48 which takes the AND of outputs that are generated by comparison circuits 45, 46 when the outputs of a rotation sensor 32 and a water temperature sensor 33 are lower than reference voltages ES1, ES2. |
