<p>The switch includes a pivot shaft for a mobile contact consisting of two parallel blades, which are spring loaded so they can move sideways to clamp a stationary contact (a) between the blades. In a pref. switch, both blades are moved by a single lever located on a crankshaft, which is rotated through an arc to open or close the switch. The crankshaft pref. carries two levers, each of which is used to move one pair of parallel blades w.r.t. two fixed contacts (a). The blades are pref. provided with silver contact zones. Electrolysis tanks connected in series use low voltages but very high current; the switches are used to disconnect a tank, e.g. for repairs.</p> |
