A screening device is described for removing cleaning bodies from the cooling water following a tube heat exchanger, in particular a power station heat exchanger. The fundamental design is composed of an essentially cylindrical housing through which the cooling water stream flows, at least two separating screens arranged therein, each of which can pivot about a horizontal axis, and a collecting box open at the top. The separating screens can pivot into a screening position and into a cleaning position. The collecting box, in the vicinity of its upper edge, has at least one turbulence generator in the form of a built-in body having one or more deflecting edges, which body extends parallel to the pivoting axes of the separating screens. The turbulence generator can be moved about its axis between a turbulence-generating washing position and a by-pass position. In the washing position, the collecting box is washed and cleaning bodies deposited there can be recovered. <IMAGE>
