The stepping feed (loading device) comprises a pneumatic transport cylinder (8) in which a rod (7) is housed. The cylinder (8) is secured to a saddle (3) carrying a pair of jaws which clamp the profiled section (52) to be machined and to be advanced between them. The cylinder is provided with end-of-travel braking (22, 23), on the outward stroke and on the return stroke, in order to avoid jolts. The saddle (3) may be moved manually for adjustment by a rack (13) and a pinion (24), the rack forming part of an outer casing (3) of the cylinder. <IMAGE>
