PURPOSE:To provide a herbicidal composition exhibiting higher herbicidal effect to weeds of presprouting stage or growing stage after sprouting than the effect attainable by the separate use of each component, and harmless to crops, by mixing a novel isonicotinic acid anilide compound with a triazine compound, and using the mixture as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The active component of the titled composition is obtained by mixing (A) one or more novel compounds of formulaI(R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is H or OH; X is halogen or lower alkyl; n is 0-2; Z is H or halogen) effective to suppress the growth of weeds for a long period and to dwarf the plants with (B) one or more compounds of formula II (R3 is halogen, methoxy, or methylthio; R4 and R5 are mono- or dialkylamino) exhibiting strong herbicidal effect against broad-leaved weeds in plowed land or paddy field before or after sprouting. The ratio of the component (A) to (B) is preferably (10-50) to (2-5). The novel compound of formulaIcan be prepared by reacting the isonicotinic acid halide of formula III (Y is halogen) with the aniline derivative of formula IV. |
