An apparatus suitable for releasable attachment to a beverage container, such as a beer barrel, for the purposes of thermal insulation from the environment is characterised in that a covering hood produced from a thermally insulating material is provided which loosely surrounds a beverage container, especially a beer barrel, at least along its outer surface and preferably has a lid by means of which an apron surrounding the outer surface of the beer barrel is completed to form a hood which completely covers the beer barrel.
