The hydrostatic drive according to the invention for longitudinal conveyors is intended to improve the drives, known per se, of this type for machines or operating means - for example so-called shuttle drives - which automatically carry out backwards and forwards movements with respect to the simplicity of their design, increased operational reliability and above all the exact observance of a desired displacement/speed profile. For this purpose, the drive is provided with a control device in which the output side of a reduction gear arranged downstream of the hydrostatic gear drives a control cam, in a mechanically operated manner, in proportion to the revolutions of the output side of the gear. The control cam has separate radial cams, which are connected to it so as to be easily interchangeable, for the forwards and backwards movement of the drive, the shape of said cams ensuring, by virtue of a guide roller arranged on the adjustment linkage for the primary (pump) part of the hydrostatic gear, the exact observance of the displacement/speed profile which can be determined by the control cams between the stationary state in the two end positions of the control cam and the expected maximum speeds in the two directions of movement of the drive.
