PURPOSE:To improve thermal efficiency and to discharge steel materials smoothly without any trouble by retreating the water-cooled discharging rolls provided on the discharge side of a walking beam furnace of a side discharging type from the furnace inside except in the stage of discharging the steel materials. CONSTITUTION:Steel materials are heated in a walking beam furnace 1 of a side discharging type provided with an interior conveyor 3 consisting of stationary beams 4 and moving beams 5, and are discharged to the outside of the furnace with the water-cooled discharging rolls 10 provided on the discharge side. In this case, the rolls 10 are kept retreated to the outside of the furnace in the stage of starting the heating of steel materials W, and when the materials W are carried to the forward end of the conveyor 3, the rolls 10 are located slightly forward of the prescribed discharge positions, receive the materials W from the beams 5, are retreated to the discharge position and are rotated to discharge the materials to the outside of the furnace. Thus, the discharge rolls are located to the outside of the furnace except in the stage of discharging the steel materials, whereby the heat loss of the furnace by the water cooling is prevented. |
