NEW MATERIAL:A 2,6,6-trimethyl-4-oxo-1-cyclohexene derivative of formulaI (R is CHO or COOH). EXAMPLE:2,6,6-Trimethyl-4-oxo-1-cyclohexenylacetaldehyde. USE:Useful as a synthetic intermediate for dehydroloriolide useful as a flavoring and tasting component in tobacco, having an individual sweet, mild and improved fruity, grassy and floral fragrance and taste, and useful as a flavoring and tasting or modifying component having improved lasting effects in a food and drink. PROCESS:4-(2-Butenylidene)-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one of formula II (formula III is the cis- and/or trans-isomeric bond) is decomposed with ozone in the presence of a basic catalyst and an organic solvent, and then brought into contact with a reducing agent to afford a compound of formulaI(R is CHO group). |
