<p>A gear train (12) having an internal gear mechanism (100) for use with a continuously variable transmission unit (10) of the nutating traction drive type. The gear train (12) includes a body (32) rotatable about a central axis (14), a first pinion gear (94) rotatably mounted on the body (32) on an inclined axis (16), a second pinion gear (96) rotatably mounted on the central axis (14), and either one or two tapered internal gears (136/122, 124) rotatably mounted on the body (32) on a nutating axis (18) for transferring torque between the pinion gears (94, 96). The gear train is simple, compact, and relatively efficient.</p> |
