Element for an artificial joint

An element for an artificial joint for engagement with another element is provided, the latter having a forked end and each of the forks having an inwardly directed, arched flange. The element has two recesses in the head in order to come into engagement with the rolling surface of the other element, a stop being provided between the two recesses in order to grip the flanges of the other element. The bearing surface of the element is a layer which is formed of a high-molecular-weight plastic material and is supported by a metallic base lying underneath it and on the bearing surface of which two recesses corresponding to the recesses of the final structure are formed, a metallic web extending into the stop between these. The metal web provides for lateral bending strength and an overall increased strength for the prosthesis element.
