A prepressing chamber (42) is arranged upstream of a pressing chamber (30), in which a press plunger (26) operates, in which prepressing chamber (32) there is arranged a prepressing screw (44). A material-feeding container (54) is connected to the prepressing chamber (42) via a trough (62) which contains a filling screw (64) which is arranged transversely to the prepressing screw (44). The prepressing chamber (42) is furthermore connected to the material-feeding container (54) via a reversing chamber (76) for a backflow of surplus material. This ensures that blockages are prevented on the one hand and that the spaces between the windings of the prepressing screw (44) are evenly filled on the other; as a result, the prepressing screw (44) fills the pressing chamber (30) in a substantially uniform fashion with prepressed material. <IMAGE>
