Two data processing systems (1, 4) are each connected to a common transmission channel (12) via a transmitting/receiving device (3, 6). The transmitting/receiving devices (3, 6) store and check the received information items for correctness. Only the information items detected to be correct are forwarded to the subsequent data processing device by the respective transmitting/receiving device. Each transmitting/receiving device informs the other transmitting/receiving device of the result of the check. Together with the forwarding of the received information item to the subsequent data processing device, the corresponding transmitting/receiving device also informs it of the result of the check made by the other transmitting/receiving device. <IMAGE>
