Instead of being accommodated in three housings, the light source for the three traffic signals of "stop" - "ready" - "go" are accommodated solely in a single housing. Fluorescent tubes are used as light sources instead of incandescent lamps. The signal "stop" is given by a horizontal tube which shines red. The signal "go" is given by a vertical tube which shines green, the signal "ready" (normally given in amber) is represented by activating both tubes, that is to say by a lit up cross, the horizontal bar analogously shining red and the vertical bar analogously shining green. The brightness is a multiple of that for signal lenses. The red tube (clear glass) is situated directly in front of the tube shining green. Both are mounted in front of a plastic shell which is embossed in accordance with the shape of the tube and is painted matt black. Operation is performed basically in a pulsed fashion, that is to say light signals lasting fractions of a second with pauses of fractions of a second. As a result, attentiveness is substantially enhanced. The system voltage is 220 V. <IMAGE>
