Large-volume sheet-metal tubes are used especially in air-conditioning systems, which tubes are assembled from shell parts which are connected to one another at their edges by folds which extend in the longitudinal direction of the tubes and project outwards from the tube surface. In order to connect such tubes, the invention provides that an annular connecting piece is arranged between the ends of the tubes which are to be connected to one another, and the tubes are pressed against the connecting piece at their ends, by means of clamping elements which engage on the folds of the tubes, which folds are arranged in an aligned manner, to be precise engaging in holes, especially with hook-shaped ends, which holes are incorporated in the folds for this purpose. It is possible to use as connecting piece in particular bodies which have grooves facing the tube ends, such as sheet-metal profiles and sealing strips consisting of elastic materials. The clamping elements can be constructed in particular in the manner of turnbuckles or beer-bottle closures.
