A mounting plate or backing plate of plastics for fittings to be attached to furniture has hollow, generally cylindrical studs projecting from its rear face and having external serrations for anchoring into the furniture board by internal splaying of the hollow stud. Each hollow stud has a central cylindrical cavity, and is followed by a further cylindrical cavity of smaller diameter in the mounting plate itself. A plug to be driven from the rear into the hollow stud has a main cylindrical part designed to fit into the cylindrical cavity and a flanged head or wider part at the top.
