PURPOSE:To obtain invariably excellent picture quality, by limiting the luminance signal band of a subject image according to the degree of color saturation of a subject. CONSTITUTION:The output of a solid-state image pickup element 1 is supplied to an encoder 20 through a variable low-pass filter 2, variable delay circuit 3, gamma correcting circuit 4, and contour compensating circuit 5. Further, the output of the element 1 is also separated by sample holding circuits 6-8 into color signals R, G, and Cy, which are processed by white balancing circuit 9-11, gamma correcting circuits 13-15, attenuators 12, 16, and 17, and low-pass filters 18 and 19 to form signals R-G and B-G, which are supplied to the encoder 20. A color saturation degree detecting circuit 21 detects the degree of color saturation on the basis of the outputs of the sample holding circuits 6-8 and by its output, the variable low-pass filter 2 and variable delay circuit 3 is controlled. |
