<p>An orbital engine having a piston member (13) mounted eccentrically upon a shaft (16) journalled in a housing (10) so that the piston member (13) orbits within the housing (10) as the shaft (16) rotates. A control member (61) supported in the housing (10) to describe an orbital path corresponding to the desired path of the piston member (13) and restrained to move in this path by a plurality of secondary cranks (43) of the same eccentricity as the shaft (16). The control member (61) being connected to the piston member (13) by a tongue (69) and slot (72) or link connection (91) which will not permit relative movement between the piston member (13) and the control member (61) in the circumferential direction, but will permit relative movement in the axial and radial direction. The control member (61) being supported on a bearing member (62) for angular movement relative thereto about the eccentric axis of the piston member (13). The bearing member (62) being linearly movable on the shaft (16) in a direction radial to the shaft (16) and to the eccentric axis of the piston member (13).</p> |
