The invention relates to a covering for seed deposited in rows. Optimum germination conditions, along with a good contact of the seed with the soil moisture and, at the same time, a flat covering, are achieved. This combination can be achieved only by an appropriate shaping of the soil surface above the seed. According to the invention, the earth moved relative to the seed furrow for the purpose of covering the seed by means of spreading-over devices is shaped by a guide device into trough rows lying above the seed furrow. Furthermore, the design of the guide device and its representation as well as its simultaneous use as a press-down roller for the seed are described. <IMAGE>
