An apparatus is described contg. a helical conveyor rearranged so that it can move granular solid material in a controlled manner with ref. to a liq. phase used in treating the material. Solns. to a wide variety of specific problems encountered in similar previous devices are claimed. The principal, but not exclusive, usage foreseen is in the processing of nuclear fuel.
