PURPOSE:To improve rolling capacity and to reduce the number of steps in control of work rolls by mounting the journal box of an upper work roll to a project block by means of a balance cylinder and a piston freely slidably with the inner side of a roll stand. CONSTITUTION:A journal box 9 of an upper work roll is mounted freely slidably with the inner side of a roll stand 1, and a projecting block 11 is fixed in the position facing the journal box 7 of a lower work roll of a roll stand 1. The boxes 9, 7 are driven vertically by means of pistons 14, 15 which are fitted to upper, lower balance cylinders 12, 13 provided to the block 11. Since the box 9 is driven by direct contact with the inner side of the stand 1 in a wide sliding area, the rolling performance for a thick plate requiring a large roll gap is improved. The number of steps in control for the gap of the slideway of the box 9, the parallelism between upper, lower work rolls 10, 8, etc. is reduced. |
