VOLTAGE REGULATOR FOR AIRCRAFT GENERATORS

A voltage regulator controls generator output voltage by controlling exciter field current. Sensors 14, 20 produce control signals which are proportional to exciter field current and generator output voltage. These signals are combined 22 and compared with a reference voltage signal 24 by a comparator 26. A current controller 28 regulates exciter field current in response to the comparator output. The controller 28 may be a transistor in series with the field winding 12. The signal from the field current sensor 14 may also be supplied to overcurrent protection circuitry 30.
