The lift has a cage driven by a motor via a flexible rope etc. The flexible rope together with a safety rope are coupled to the cage and work with a rotary brake which normally rotates freely. A device detects breakage or abnormal conditions, e.g. excess extension of the hoist rope and activates the safety device. This then takes over the load of the cage by acting on the brake. |
