MANUFACTURE OF VERTICAL MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

摘要

PURPOSE:To enhance the vertical magnetic anisotropy of a Co-Cr film by heat treating the film in oxygen. CONSTITUTION:A Co-Cr film contg. 16-20wt% Cr is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate by sputtering or other method, and after introducing oxygen into the vacuum atmosphere to 10<-4>-10<-3>Torr partial pressure of oxygen, the film is heat treated at about 450 deg.C to obtain a magnetic recording medium with large vertical magnetic anisotropy.
