<p>PURPOSE:To obtain titled substance, by subjecting an o-phthalic ester, reducing the resultant reaction solution, obtaining a precipitate, removing organic substances therefrom, heating the resultant product in an aliphatic carboxylic acid, activating the resultant insoluble substance, and heating the activated insoluble substance. CONSTITUTION:An o-phthalic ester, e.g. dimethyl o-phthalate, is subjected to the oxidative coupling reaction in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an organic Pd salt, organic copper salt and 1,10-phenanthroline, etc., and the resultant reaction solution is then reduced to give a precipitate consisting essentially of reduced Pd and reduced copper, which is then calcined or further reduced in a dilute aqueous solution of an alkali to remove organic substances. The resultant product is then heated in an aliphatic carboxylic acid to elute and remove the copper component. The resultant insoluble substance is activated and then heated in an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing a very small amount of nitric acid to afford the titled substance as a deposit. EFFECT:The resultant deposit is of high purity and can be circulated for reuse as the catalyst.</p> |
