PURPOSE:To manufacture an optical waveguide with a small-sized and simple manufacturing apparatus by applying a PLZT alkoxide soln. contg. a mixture of lead alkoxide, etc. to the surface of a substrate, allowing the substrate to stand in air, and heat treating it. CONSTITUTION:At least one pair of flat electrodes 21, 22 are formed on a substrate 1 having a smooth surface by vapor deposition or other method. Solns. of lead alkoxide, zirconium alkoxide, titanium alkoxide and lanthanum alkoxide in benzene or isopropyl alcohol are mixed in a desired ratio to prepare a PLZT alkoxide soln., and the soln. is applied to the substrate 1. The substrate 1 is allowed to stand in air for several min and calcined at 500-800 deg.C for about 10hr to form a thin film 3 of PLZT. Thus, an optical waveguide can be manufactured. |
