PURPOSE:To reproduce a recorded tape with high efficency, by averaging the set gains of reproducing circuit of tracks excepting for the reproducing circuits of all tracks with which a gain setting circuit is out of the desired allowance value and then setting the gains of the tracks which are out of the allowance value. CONSTITUTION:An automatic gain setting circuit 9 contains a gain setting circuit 10 which is provided with each track. This circuit 10 decides the gain of an amplifier 6 by a setting code 12. Then the initial value that is decided by the correlation between a magnetic tape and a reproducing circuit is supplied to an amplifier 6. Then the gain is controlled in response to the reproducing output of the magnetic tape in an automatic gain setting mode, and at the same time the set gain code 12 is decided to obtain a desired output of reproduction. The desired allowance value is set to the code 12. When a track gets out of the allowance value, the gain is set by the average of codes 12 of normal tracks which are not out of the allowable value through an averaging circuit 11 in order to obtain a desired output of reproduction. As a result, a recorded tape can be reproduced with high efficiency. |
