PURPOSE:To indicate a defect on a magnetic tape speedily and accurately by detecting an information signal showing the position of the defect on the magnetic tape from a dropout detection point and giving a mark near the defect on the magnetic tape on the basis of the information signal. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic heads 21 and 22 scan on recording tracks on the magnetic tape 1 successively. The magnetic tape 1 is wound around a take-up reel which is not shown in a figure through a marker 6. From video signals reproduced by the magnetic heads 21 and 22, a processor 5 detects a dropout, and also detect the position of the defect causing the dropout on the magnetic tape 1 from vertical and horizontal synchronizing pulses obtained simultaneously. On the basis of the information signal showing the position of the detected defect on the magnetic tape, the processor 5 further calcultes the period from when the dropout is detected by scanning the detect by the magnetic head 21 or 22 to when the defect reaches the marker 6 to generate a signal the moment the dropout reaches the marker 6. On receiving the signal, the marker 6 gives a mark near the defect position on the magnetic tape 1. Consequently, when the defect is observed visually in details, the position of the defect is known speedily by the mark. |
