<p>The method of ignition of a gas burner, and of ensuring safety in the event of accidental extinction of the flame, is applied to a burner of the type using an automatic valve to cut off the gas supply. During the ignition cycle the burner (1) is supplied by a gas circuit (9) connected so that it by-passes the main valve (8), and held open by a timer relay for a period of time sufficient to permit the burner to reach a high enough temp. to operate the flame sensor. The bypass is automatically closed at the end of the time, and the bypass valve (10,11) cannot be reopened until after the gas supply to the burner has been cut-off. The flame detector is a thermo-couple (6) which actuates a pneumatic valve (7,8) in the main supply line, and has contacts to ensure the necessary interlocking.</p> |
