<p>The sleeve is used to hold pipes and cables of the type used in large scale underwater construction, and is made up of two hemi-cylindrical shells which clamp round the pipe or cable allowing it to be positioned. The hemi-cylinders can be remotely separated to release the pipe or cable. The cable or pipe (16) is enclosed by the hemi-cylinders (2), each having flexible liners (10, 11) which can be filled with a pressurised fluid to grip the outside of the pipes or cable. The hemi-cylinders are joined by double articulated linkages (6) along one edge, allowing them to open to fit over the pipe or cable, and have hook and eye type fasteners (7, 8) along the opposite edges, designed to lock when the liner is pressurised. Lifting hooks are fitted to the exterior of the cylinders to permit manipulation.</p> |
