FURNACE FOREHEARTH ELECTRODE GROUPS

Method is described of heating molten glass etc. flowing in the forehearth of a furnace, using sets of opposed electrodes which are connected to separate transformers and separate phases of a power supply. The phase angle between adjacent electrode sets is not more than 90 degrees. pref. either 90 itself or 60 degrees. Pref. adjacent electrodes of each set and adjacent electrodes of adjacent electrode sets are equally spaced. The melting furnace is also claimed which includes the forehearth and the sets of electrodes which are includes the forehearth and the sets of electrodes which are on opposite sides of the forehearth channel. The power source is pref. three-phase.
