In the hydrostatic bearing, in order to displace the supporting surface with the conveyed material which is supported thereon on a base surface (8), a liquid cushion is generated by supplying pressure fluid into the cavity (2) which is bounded by the base surface (8) and the housing (1) which is provided with a seal (4). Accommodated in the housing (1) is a piston (3) which is provided with a separate seal (5) which seals the gap between the housing (1) and the piston (3) hermetically. The seal (4) enclosing the liquid cushion on the cavity circumference is rigidly mounted on the housing (1). The supporting frame (23) of the conveying device may have a hollow body which is filled with the pressure fluid and, if applicable, with a compressed gas. <IMAGE>
