A dowel for fastening elements at a distance in front of a surface contains a sleeve which possesses a plurality of longitudinal slots in its front region intended for insertion into a bore and, on the far side of the longitudinal slots, a thread formed by projections along a thread line. The projections can be rolled during the production of the sleeve from sheet metal. When the screw of the dowel is tightened, the clamping webs located between the longitudinal slots are deformed outwards, so that a large increase in diameter is obtained, which also makes the dowels suitable for use in hollow stone blocks.
