PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high polymer which can give a uniform film excellent in heat resistance and weathering resistance, by dehydratively polycondensing diphenylsilanediol or a diphenylsiloxane oligomer having hydroxyl groups on both terminals by using a friedel-Crafts catalyst and a specified promotor. CONSTITUTION:Diphenylsilanediol or a diphenylsiloxane oligomer having hydroxyl groups on both terminals is dissolved in a solvent such as chloroform, and a Friedel-Crafts catalyst comprising a Lewis acid catalyst such as anhydrous AlCl3 or anhydrous SnCl4 and a promotor comprising a compound selected from among an acid anhydride (e.g., succinic anhydride), an acyl halide (e.g., acetyl chloride), an alkyl halide (e.g., methyl iodine) and an aralkyl halide (e.g., benzyl chloride) are added to the solution. The resulting reaction mixture is subjected to dehydrative polycondensation at 0-100 deg.C for 30min-30hr and the product is precipitated from, e.g., methanol and purified by repeating reprecipitation from a dioxane/methanol system to obtain a high-MW polydiphenylsiloxane of a weight-average MW of 10<3>-10<6>.
